Collagen Stimulating Treatments

Stimulate your skin’s own collagen for gradual, natural rejuvenation. The best results come from combining treatments. Energy devices like HIFU and radiofrequency microneedling, alongside injectables such as Radiesse, polynucleotides, Sculptra and Profhilo, all stimulate collagen in different ways – and together they give stronger, smoother and more natural improvements than any single treatment alone.

Collagen Stimulating Treatments

As we age, the most significant changes within the face occur beneath the surface. Collagen production slows, skin quality diminishes, and structural support gradually weakens. While traditional treatments can address surface lines and volume loss, collagen-stimulating treatments work at a deeper level – improving the quality, strength, and resilience of the skin over time.

Collagen-stimulating treatments work by encouraging the skin to produce its own new collagen, using a range of different approaches depending on the concern being treated. These may include injectable biostimulators – such as Sculptra®, Radiesse®, or polynucleotides – skin-quality treatments, and energy-based treatments, such as High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFM).

When undergoing any collagen stimulating treatment, results typically continue to improve for several months as new collagen forms. We naturally lose around 1.5% of our collagen each year, and this rate of loss can accelerate at certain stages of life. This becomes particularly relevant during periods such as perimenopause and menopause, when collagen levels are known to decline more rapidly due to hormonal changes.

Collagen stimulation focuses on encouraging the body’s own natural regenerative processes, leading to gradual, refined, and long-lasting rejuvenation. By actively stimulating collagen, the skin is encouraged to produce more collagen than it would have otherwise. Once collagen has been stimulated and formed, you will always have more collagen than you would have had without treatment. This is why the concept of collagen banking is important – newly formed collagen contributes to the overall collagen reserves within the skin, helping to support skin quality and structure over time.

Because collagen production is a gradual biological process, stimulating it safely and effectively requires a staged approach over time & often a course of treatment is required. Delivering treatment as a course allows collagen to be built progressively and evenly, supporting skin strength, structure, and quality while maintaining a natural appearance.

Spacing treatments appropriately also gives the skin time to respond, repair, and regenerate between sessions, helping to optimise results and reduce the risk of over-treatment. This course-based approach is key to achieving subtle, long-lasting improvement, rather than short-term or artificial results. The exact number of sessions and spacing will always be tailored to individual skin needs and discussed during consultation

At Rejuvenation by Dr Morag, these treatments form a cornerstone of a modern, medical approach to facial ageing – prioritising skin health, longevity, and natural results.

Collagen-stimulating treatments encompass a range of injectable and energy-based therapies designed to trigger the body’s natural collagen production.

Depending on your individual needs, treatment may include injectable biostimulators such as Radiesse®, Sculptra®, or polynucleotides, often combined with skin-quality treatments and energy-based devices such as High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound (HIFU) & Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFM). These treatments work within the deeper layers of the skin to improve firmness, elasticity, texture, and overall skin vitality.

Treatment plans are always bespoke and after often staged over time to allow results to develop naturally and harmoniously.

These treatments are particularly effective for:

  • Loss of skin firmness and elasticity
  • Skin thinning and crepiness
  • Early to moderate facial sagging
  • Dull or poor-quality skin
  • Age-related volume depletion
  • Neck and jawline laxity
  • Long-term skin ageing and prevention

They are often used as part of a full face rejuvenation plan.

Discomfort varies depending on the treatment used but is generally mild to moderate and well tolerated. Comfort measures are used where appropriate, and treatments are carried out in a calm, unhurried clinical environment.

Treatment time typically ranges from 30–60 minutes, depending on the areas treated and the combination of therapies included in your plan.

Unlike traditional fillers, collagen-stimulating treatments work gradually. Improvements in skin quality, firmness, and structure develop over several weeks to months, creating results that look natural and refined rather than immediate or obvious.

Collagen-stimulating treatments work by encouraging the body to produce new collagen, which is a gradual biological process rather than an immediate cosmetic change.

Some early improvements in skin texture or firmness may be noticed during a course of treatment. However, results are typically more noticeable after the completion of a full course, once collagen production has been adequately stimulated and the skin has had time to respond and regenerate.

The timing and extent of results depend on the combination of treatments used, such as injectable biostimulators, HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound), and Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFM), as well as individual factors including skin quality, age, and lifestyle.

Improvements continue to develop for several weeks to months following the final treatment session, resulting in subtle, natural-looking enhancement that reflects improved skin structure and quality rather than sudden change.

Collagen-stimulating treatments are designed to create long-lasting improvement by encouraging the skin to produce its own new collagen, rather than relying on a temporary cosmetic effect.

Following completion of a full course of treatment, results typically continue to improve for several weeks to months, as collagen production progresses. Because collagen is being rebuilt within the skin, results tend to fade gradually rather than suddenly.

Many patients choose to maintain their results with periodic maintenance treatments usually single treatments anywhere from 3-6 months post-treatment to annually depending on individual needs. Maintenance schedules are always personalised and discussed during review appointments.

Longevity varies based on:

  • The type and combination of treatments chosen (for example injectable biostimulators, HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound), and Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFM))
  • Baseline skin quality and degree of collagen loss
  • Age, lifestyle, and natural ageing processes

The aim is to support ongoing skin health and natural ageing, rather than frequent or excessive intervention.

Collagen stimulation happens gradually over time. Treatments work by activating fibroblasts – the cells responsible for producing collagen – and these cells need to be stimulated repeatedly for a meaningful response to occur.

A single treatment is not enough to trigger lasting collagen production. Delivering treatment as a course allows fibroblasts to be stimulated consistently and progressively, leading to stronger, more organised collagen formation and more reliable results.

This repeated stimulation is what makes collagen-stimulating treatments effective. Without it, results are minimal or short-lived. The number of sessions and spacing are carefully planned to maximise collagen response while allowing the skin time to regenerate between treatments.
