Profhilo®
Profhilo® is often termed the “injectable moisturiser” & is used most commonly in clinic to treat the face and/or neck. It is particularly well suited to areas showing early skin laxity, crepiness, or loss of elasticity, and is often chosen by patients looking for subtle, natural-looking skin improvement.
Working to hydrate, tighten and firm the skin while stimulating collagen production, Profhilo® works by supporting your body’s own cells to produce more collagen and elastin in the skin which has the effect of reversing the signs of ageing at a cellular level, significantly improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and giving you firmer, more youthful skin.
Profhilo® is clinically proven to help with a wide range of ageing symptoms. Although both dermal fillers and Profhilo® both contain hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the body), once injected Profhilo® disperses evenly throughout the skin, so the effects are visible throughout the whole face or treatment area to give a much more even anti-ageing result. It acts as a hydrator rather than a traditional dermal filler, and is therefore fantastic for those with tired, dull and ageing skin, as it provides overall more plump and luminous skin and can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, abdomen, knees and hands.
Profhilo® is injected into specific points within the skin, allowing the product to disperse and improve hydration and elasticity across a wider area.
Treatment is usually delivered as a course of 2 sessions, spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. This allows the skin to respond gradually and achieve optimal improvement in skin quality and firmness. For patients with increased skin laxity, sometimes a course of 3 treatments is recommended to see the desired results.
Profhilo® does not add volume or alter facial contours. Instead, it works to improve how the skin behaves, with results developing progressively over the weeks following treatment.
Profhilo® can be used in a range of areas where skin quality and elasticity are a concern, including:
- Face
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Hands
- Upper arms (“bingo wings”)
Suitability for treatment areas is assessed during consultation, particularly where skin laxity or crepiness is present.
Profhilo® treatment is generally well tolerated. The injections are brief, and discomfort is usually minimal.
Some temporary redness, mild swelling, or small injection bumps can occur immediately after treatment – this is completely normal & nothing to worry about as the highly concentrated pure hyaluronic acid will disperse itself in the few hours following treatment. These typically settle within a few hours to a couple of days. Mild bruising can occasionally occur.
Each Profhilo® treatment session typically takes 20–30 minutes, including assessment, treatment, and aftercare advice.
Profhilo® works gradually. Many patients notice improvements in skin hydration and texture within 2–4 weeks of the first treatment.
Results are usually more noticeable after completion of the 2-treatment course, with continued improvement in skin firmness and elasticity over the following weeks.
The longevity of results with Profhilo® varies between individuals and depends on baseline skin quality, age, and lifestyle factors. Following an initial course of treatment, results are commonly maintained using one of two well-established maintenance approaches.
One option is to repeat the full course of 2 treatments every 6 months, which provides a regular reset and ongoing support for skin quality, but the more popular maintenance approach for many patients is to have a single Profhilo® treatment at approximately 3-monthly intervals. This helps to maintain hydration, elasticity, and skin quality more consistently over time, without waiting for results to decline.
The most appropriate maintenance protocol is discussed on an individual basis and may change over time, depending on how the skin responds and the areas being treated. The focus is always on maintaining healthy, resilient skin rather than overtreatment.
