Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a common condition that can affect both men and women. It occurs when the sweat glands are overactive and produce more sweat than is required for normal temperature regulation.
For many people, excessive sweating can be distressing and embarrassing, often affecting confidence, comfort and day-to-day life, particularly in social or professional situations.
Treatment involves a series of small injections placed just beneath the surface of the skin in the affected area. These injections work by reducing the activity of the sweat glands, helping to significantly decrease sweat production in the treated area.
The procedure is simple, quick and well tolerated, with no downtime. Treatment is carried out following a consultation to assess suitability and to discuss treatment goals.
Treatment for hyperhidrosis can help improve:
- Excessive underarm sweating
- Clothing staining caused by sweating
- Discomfort related to excessive moisture
- Impact on confidence and self-esteem
In many patients, treatment can result in a significant reduction in sweating, often around 80 percent in the treated area.
Hyperhidrosis treatment is most commonly used for underarms. Other areas may be discussed during consultation where clinically appropriate.
Discomfort is usually minimal. The treatment involves a number of small injections just under the skin and is generally well tolerated.
Temporary redness, mild swelling or tenderness at the injection sites can occur but typically settles quickly.
The treatment appointment usually takes around 30-45 minutes, including assessment and treatment.
Improvement can be notice from as early as a few days, with full results typically seen at 2 weeks as sweat gland activity reduces.
Results from a single treatment session can last up to 6 months, although this can vary between individuals. Many patients choose to repeat treatment once sweating gradually returns.
