Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a medical exfoliation treatment designed to improve skin quality, clarity and overall skin health. They work by applying carefully formulated acidic solutions to the skin to temporarily lower the skin’s pH, encouraging controlled exfoliation and skin renewal.

By removing the build-up of dead skin cells, chemical peels reveal smoother, brighter and more radiant skin. In addition to exfoliation, chemical peels can help thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen production, supporting long-term improvements in skin strength, texture and function.

Chemical peels are an excellent option for patients looking to refresh and rejuvenate the skin, or to target specific skin concerns as part of a structured treatment plan.

Chemical peel

At Rejuvenation by Dr Morag, chemical peels are performed using Alumier® medical-grade peel formulations. Alumier® peels are carefully designed using combinations of clinically proven acids, including alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, selected for their ability to exfoliate, renew and strengthen the skin in a controlled and predictable way.

Rather than aggressively stripping the skin, Alumier peels work by gently lowering the skin’s pH to loosen the bonds between dead skin cells. This encourages controlled exfoliation, accelerates cell turnover and supports collagen stimulation, helping to improve skin texture, tone and overall skin health.

The type, strength and combination of acids used are fully customised based on your skin type, concerns and tolerance. This allows chemical peels to be safely tailored for concerns such as acne, pigmentation, ageing, rosacea-prone or sensitive skin.

Chemical peels can be used as a standalone treatment, but are often delivered as part of a course to achieve cumulative improvements in skin quality.

An Alumier® post-procedure aftercare kit is included with every peel for use in the first few days following treatment, helping to support healing and optimise results.

Chemical peels can help improve a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Dull or tired looking skin
  • Acne and congestion
  • Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing
  • Rosacea-prone skin
  • Dry, tight or sensitive skin
  • Uneven skin texture

Chemical peels are most commonly used on:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage

Most patients experience mild tingling, warmth or tightness during treatment. These sensations are temporary and usually settle quickly once the peel is removed.

Following treatment, some redness, dryness or light peeling may occur for a few days, depending on the type and strength of peel used.

A chemical peel appointment typically takes around 30-45 minutes, including skin preparation, treatment and aftercare advice.

Skin often appears brighter and smoother within a few days of treatment. Improvements continue as the skin renews itself over the following weeks.

The best results are usually seen after completing a course of treatments, particularly for concerns such as pigmentation, acne or ageing.

Results vary depending on individual skin concerns, lifestyle factors and ongoing skincare. Regular maintenance peels and appropriate home skincare are key to sustaining results long term.

Chemical peels work particularly effectively when combined with Alumier® medical-grade home skincare. Exfoliation from the in-clinic peel increases penetration and activity of home skincare products, allowing active ingredients to work more effectively.

For many patients, results are achieved through a balance of approximately 20% in-clinic treatments and 80% home skincare. Maintaining good skin health not only enhances and prolongs the results of chemical peels, but also improves outcomes from injectable and regenerative treatments, as high-quality skin allows treatment results to be more visible and longer lasting.
