Sculptra®

Sculptra® is a collagen-stimulating injectable treatment made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible substance that has been safely used in medical applications for many years. Rather than acting as a traditional volumising filler, Sculptra® works by stimulating the body’s own collagen production, helping to restore skin strength, thickness, and structural support over time.

As collagen naturally declines with age – and can be accelerated by factors such as weight loss, hormonal changes, or stress – the skin may begin to appear thinner, less supported, and less firm. Sculptra® addresses these deeper changes by encouraging gradual collagen regeneration, resulting in subtle, progressive rejuvenation that looks natural and refined rather than immediate or overfilled.

At Rejuvenation by Dr Morag, Sculptra® is used selectively as part of a medical, long-term approach to facial ageing, particularly where widespread collagen loss is present and a regenerative strategy is most appropriate.

Following a detailed consultation and facial assessment, Sculptra® is injected into carefully selected areas to support collagen regeneration within the deeper layers of the skin. The treatment is planned to improve overall skin structure and support rather than to create instant volume.

Sculptra® is delivered as a course of treatments, rather than a single session. Most patients require a course of three treatment sessions, usually spaced four to six weeks apart. The exact number of sessions and spacing will be tailored to individual skin condition and treatment goals.

Because Sculptra® works by encouraging your body to produce its own collagen, results develop progressively throughout the course and continue to improve in the weeks following the final treatment.

The exact number of sessions and spacing will be tailored to your skin condition, degree of collagen loss, and treatment goals, and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

Sculptra® is often incorporated into a wider full-face or regenerative treatment plan, depending on individual needs and goals.

Sculptra® is commonly used to improve:

  • Generalised facial volume loss
  • Temples
  • Mid-face support
  • Lower face laxity
  • Jawline softening
  • Hollowing and age-related facial thinning
  • Overall skin firmness and structure

It is particularly well suited to patients experiencing widespread collagen loss rather than isolated volume deficits.

While both Sculptra® and Radiesse® are collagen-stimulating treatments, they are used in different ways. Sculptra® works primarily by encouraging gradual collagen regeneration, with results developing slowly over time as the skin rebuilds its own support.

Radiesse®, by contrast, can provide more immediate structural support while also stimulating collagen production. The most appropriate treatment is determined by your individual anatomy, degree of volume loss, and treatment goals, and this will be discussed in detail during consultation.

Discomfort is generally mild to moderate and well tolerated. Sculptra® treatments are performed using fine needles or cannula techniques, and local anesthetic is incorporated to improve comfort.

Patients may experience temporary swelling, tenderness, or mild bruising following treatment, which usually settles within a few days.

Each Sculptra® treatment session typically takes 30–45 minutes, including assessment, treatment, and aftercare advice.

Sculptra® works gradually, as it relies on the body’s natural collagen-producing processes rather than providing an immediate cosmetic effect.

Some patients begin to notice early improvements in skin firmness and texture during the course of treatment. However, results are typically more noticeable after the completion of the full course, with continued improvement developing over the following weeks to months as new collagen forms.

The outcome is a subtle, progressive enhancement in skin quality and support rather than an abrupt change.

Sculptra® is designed as a long-term collagen-stimulating treatment, rather than a quick fix. Initial treatment is usually delivered as a course of sessions, spaced several weeks apart, to allow collagen to build gradually and evenly within the skin.

Once the initial course is complete, results can last up to two years, depending on individual factors such as age, lifestyle, and the degree of collagen loss at baseline. Many patients choose to maintain their results with periodic maintenance treatments, often at intervals of 12 months, to support ongoing collagen production and skin strength.

Maintenance schedules are always personalised and discussed during review appointments. The aim is to preserve skin quality and structural support over time, allowing results to age naturally rather than relying on frequent or excessive intervention.
